Renewable energy has developed into one of the leading technology industries in Germany. It creates growth, regional added value and new jobs.
In 2010, renewable energy accounted for 11.0 percent of total German electricity, heat and fuel consumption. Investments in new plants and systems in 2010 amounted to around 25.5 billion Euros. Added to the income from operation of the renewable energy plants, total turnover in 2009 was 37.5 billion Euro.
Investments in renewable energy create employment. Since 1998 the number of employees in this economic sector has increased more than five-fold. Today around 366,000 people work for manufacturers, suppliers and project planning & design in the renewable energy industry.
