Storage technologies
Storage technologies are very important for renewable energies. As a result of the awareness of progressive climate change, the abandonment of nuclear energy and the increase in its economic efficiency, renewable energies have left their niche existence in Germany and are experiencing high growth rates. With renewable energies increasing share of electricity production in Germany, load management also becomes more important. Electricity production and demand for electricity fluctuate over time. In times of strong wind and low power demand it is important for surplus electricity to be stored so that filled storage can be utilised when demand exceeds production. Apart from various storage technologies such as pump storage, compressed air storage or batteries, skilled power management also plays an important role in the reliability of power supply through renewable energy.
With technically perfected and economically worthwhile storage technologies as well as well planned power management; there are no longer any barriers to further development of renewable energy's share of power production.
