“The power of corporations must be regulated, because these geared towards profit maximisation rather than attaining a sustainable supply.”

When did you first get involved with renewable energies? Was there a particular trigger or inspiration?

In the year 1998, I decided to restrict my activities to companies and sectors with a sustainable orientation. Initially, renewable energies was just one of several sectors I was involved in. They have in the meantime become the pivotal sector.

What motivates you?

Finding ways for the sustainable development of companies, sectors and society, and having an influence on these approaches.

Where do you see renewable energies in the year 2020?

In Germany and worldwide, renewable energies will be on the point of making the largest contribution to the provision of energy in comparison with all other kinds of energy generation. In the electricity sector certainly (> 30 %), in the heating sector on the threshold (> 25 %) and with the smallest share in the transport sector (~ 10 %), but with the largest growth potential.

What still needs to be done to achieve this?

More attention must be devoted to decentralised systems. The power of corporations must be regulated and in some cases actively restricted, because these are geared towards profit maximisation rather than attaining a sustainable supply.

When the day’s work is done, how do you like to relax and switch off?

Well at the moment Naturstrom takes up all of our time and attention, and I can rarely take any time off. What little free time I do have, I devote entirely to my family.
