CEO SCHNELL Motoren AG, Amtzell

“Renewable energies will represent the largest economic sector after the car industry”

When did you first get involved with renewable energies? Was there a particular trigger or inspiration?

In the year 1986. After the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, the farmers’ association called on the young rural population to engage with the issue of nuclear power and take a stand on it. We formed a committee and informed ourselves in a number of ways including lectures by scientists on nuclear power and alternatives. I started planning biogas plants 16 years ago. I built the first one on my parents’ farm.

What motivates you today?

The chance to make a creative contribution to the revolution in energy technology and energy policy.

Where do you see renewable energies in the year 2020?

At 20+5%. Renewable energies will represent the largest economic sector after the car industry.

What still needs to be done to achieve this?

Political frameworks must remain stable.

Expertise: Biogas, biofuels, biomass-gasification, community acceptance of renewable energy, private and commercial application of renewables, political general condition and support for renewable energy, EEG (renewable energy law), research and development, jobs, innovations: more performance by high degree of effectiveness,
