Politics: targets and promotion of renewable energy
Protection of the climate and a secure energy supply are among mankind's most important challenges. Renewable energy, energy savings and the use of more efficient technologies are central strategies for overcoming these challenges.
Worldwide, 66 states have set their own targets for the development of renewable energy. Just as many countries use political measures to increase the renewable energy's share of the energy supply. The member states of the European Union have undertaken to increase the share of renewable energy to 20 percent by 2020 and at the same time aim to achieve 20 percent less greenhouse gas emissions. In Germany, a wide range of political instruments for promoting renewable energy are available at Federal, Federal State and local authority level.
