Local authorities and regions - local renewable energy

Rural districts, towns and cities and local communities play a major role in climate protection, they have a decisive influence on the use of renewable energy. Without their commitment at local level, climate protection targets cannot be achieved at all. In addition, development of renewable energy locally offers a large number of new prospects for a region. They increase independence, create local employment and added value and mean improved image and increased attractiveness for visitors.

The large majority of the population is open to local renewable energy. Nevertheless, conflicts, fears and resistance to projects cannot always be avoided. It is therefore the role of local decision makers to involve the population and to allow them to share in the opportunities provided by renewable energy.
