Renewable energy in transport
How will we travel in future when the oil wells run dry? Renewable energy already provides solutions for mobility, which remains safe, reliable and affordable without endangering the climate. People and goods can be moved on land, water and in the air with renewable energy. Some of the various drive technologies have long since been established in daily transport, others still have to be launched on the wider market. Renewable energy currently accounts for 5.8 percent of German fuel demand.
Biofuels used in combustion engines in cars, trucks, railways, ships and airplanes currently make the largest contribution. But electric mobility is also becoming important: Electricity from renewable energy drives clean and efficient electric motors in cars and motorbikes, in buses and railways.
