New Project: PeerConnect Resilience

The project brings together European and German municipalities to exchange experiences from successfully managed crises and to jointly develop approaches for strengthening local resilience.

At its core, the project focuses on how municipalities respond to challenges such as energy crises, structural change, and extreme weather events – and which strategies have proven effective in local practice.

At the same time, the project aims to raise awareness that resilience has become a central task for local governments in light of shifting global political conditions and increasing extreme weather events. It cuts across all policy areas and must be firmly embedded in municipal agendas.

PeerConnect Resilience fosters dialogue between European and German municipalities, enabling them to share insights from past crises and co-develop strategies to enhance local resilience. The project centers on the exchange of best practices regarding challenges such as energy crises, structural change, and extreme weather events.

Simultaneously, the project highlights that building resilience has become a vital strategic priority for municipalities in an era of shifting geopolitical landscapes and increasing climate volatility. It is a cross-cutting issue that belongs on every local policy agenda.

By fostering cross-border exchange—focusing on agility, decentralization, and streamlining bureaucratic processes during crises—the project helps municipalities gain a critical edge: prioritizing pragmatism over perfectionism. This process of "leapfrogging" demonstrates that resilience is fundamentally a matter of speed in execution. Through continuous international collaboration, municipalities can accelerate knowledge transfer, allowing them to benefit from shared experiences rather than having to navigate every challenge from scratch.
