Cross-Partnership Exchange on the Energy Transition - Third Meeting
Following an initial cross-partnership exchange in November 2025 as part of the project “Energy Transition Town Twinning’s 3.0,” representatives from several European municipalities and organizations met again on March 5th for their third and final session. Participants included delegations from Stuttgart, Goražde (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Greifswald, Galway (Ireland), Novovolynsk (Ukraine), Hoyerswerda, GIZ Moldova, as well as Düsseldorf and Chernivtsi (Ukraine).
The meeting aimed to exchange regional perspectives on energy supply, infrastructure, and circular economy approaches. Significant differences in local conditions became evident, ranging from limited spatial capacities in urban contexts to an urgent need for resilient energy systems in crisis-affected regions.
The structured exchange facilitated the identification of shared thematic areas and mutual learning. A joint visual board was used to collect and organize ideas, examples, and inputs from the various regions, providing a transparent overview. This enabled the clustering of approaches and helped identify potential topics for a joint EU project, particularly within the LIFE or Horizon programme frameworks.
Discussions focused on the technical, economic, and societal dimensions of reusing energy components. Examples included the repurposing of PV modules (e.g., for balcony systems), challenges related to wind turbine recycling, and approaches to extending the operational lifespan of existing installations. In addition, questions of public acceptance—especially in urban and heritage contexts—were addressed, alongside the role of decentralized solutions in enhancing energy security and resilience in crisis situations.
