Workshop - Strengthening Local Resilience: Leveraging Best Practices, Shaping the Future

At the same time, the requirements for a secure, affordable, and climate-resilient energy supply are growing: extreme weather events, rising energy costs, questions of supply security, and limited staff and financial resources are presenting towns and municipalities with major challenges.

Through the PeerConnect project, we are creating a space for exchange between municipalities, experts, and other stakeholders in the energy transition. The goal is to make experiences visible, learn from one another, and jointly develop strategies for greater municipal resilience.



In the second part of the three-part workshop series, we focus on what is already working: 

Which measures are strengthening the resilience of municipalities?


Planned agenda

  • Methodology for resilient regions – input from ICLEI - European Secretariat GmbH from the project Pathways2Resilience: How can European regions strengthen their climate resilience through a structured transformation process – from baseline analysis to the development of adaptation strategies and their implementation, with a focus on capacity building and peer-to-peer learning?

  • Instruments and processes from German model projects – input from Sebastian Schulz from the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR): Which structures and processes for risk preparedness were tested in practice in the model projects, with a particular focus on climate adaptation and energy supply?

  • Practical example from Ukraine – input from Erika Tšerkašina from the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Tallinn: Using the example of the UA-GRIDEX project, she shows how energy modelling and funding mapping for a municipal water station can concretely contribute to greater resilience.

  • Panel discussion

Together with you, we want to work out which success factors can be transferred across national and municipal contexts, and discuss how such a transfer can succeed in practice.
