Municipal Heat Transition

The Municipal Heat Transition (Kommunale Wärmewende) – Identifying the Obstacles of the Heat Transition and Implementing Adequate Measures at the Local Level

The two-year project “Municipal Heat Transition” addresses the prevalent backlog relating to the implementation of the heat transition at municipal level by collecting, systematizing and re-evaluating existing recommendations for action. It aims at identifying marketable technologies and instruments designed to meet Germany’s goals for the heat transition.  Furthermore, the project supports their implementation across all German regions. More specifically, this objective is to be achieved by analyzing the efficiency of these instruments within the given political framework, as well as by transferring information and knowledge between different stakeholders.

In addition, the project partners support and monitor the heat planning of three exemplary municipalities, with the findings gained from this process being documented online and passed on to other municipalities.

The project is supported by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt DBU) and implemented in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology IEE.
